What We Believe

At The Good Shepherd Foundation (Homepage – Click Here) we believe that all people and nations are called to faithful obedience to God's word through Jesus Christ. Those who serve with us all hold the following fundamental, foundational, and timeless beliefs in common:

  1. We believe in one God who exists in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  2. We believe God's attributes include being Almighty, Eternal, Holy, Loving, Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Sovereign.
  3. We believe the Bible, made up of 39 Old Testament books and 27 New Testament books, is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God.
  4. We believe truth exists, is knowable, and is absolute.
  5. We believe God created the heavens and the earth out of nothing in six days.
  6. We believe man is made in the image of God.
  7. We believe the first man, Adam, sinned and brought death into the world.
  8. We believe Jesus is eternal, was not created, is the only begotten Son of God, is the Christ, was born of a virgin, and lived a sinless life.
  9. We believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day.
  10. We believe Jesus ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father from where He rules and reigns over heaven and earth as King, and will return at a time known only by the Father.
  11. We believe salvation is not by good works but is by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
  12. We believe Christians are to have compassion for the unbeliever, love others as Christ loved us, and share their faith with others, as commanded in the Great Commission by our Lord Jesus Christ.
  13. We believe that the dead in Christ will be resurrected, receiving new bodies, to spend eternity with God in a new heaven and a new earth.

The Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is,
seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

How this Platform is Programmed

We used theological triage to engineer the doctrinal and ethical viewpoints of this model, so that where interpretive disagreements exist, biblical Christian unity can be maintained by identifying the absolute core beliefs of faith that unite us. To define what this means, we believe:

  1. Tier 1 doctrines are essential doctrines to biblical faith.
  2. Tier 2 doctrines are secondary teachings where many interpretive disagreements exist without compromising Tier 1 core tenets.
  3. Tier 3 doctrinal disagreements are false doctrines that have been rejected since the earliest days of the Church which would violate the Tier 1 doctrines, undermining the foundation of Christianity, and compromising the integrity of the Gospel message.

On this platform, our commitment is that every response will be in alignment with Tier 1 doctrines, users will have the ability to investigate various Tier 2 doctrines, and Tier 3 doctrinal disagreements will always be rejected and treated as heretical, whether addressed specifically or in principle.

Tier 1: We believe these doctrines are absolutely necessary to biblical faith.

1. The Trinity - There is one God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

2. The Deity and Humanity of Jesus Christ - Jesus is both fully divine and fully human, two natures in one person (Colossians 2:9; Philippians 2:6-11).

3. The Personhood and Work of the Holy Spirit - The third person of the Trinity convicts the world of sin, regenerates, indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers believers for godly living and service (John 14:15-17, 26; Romans 8:9-11; Galatians 5:22-23).

4. The Authority and Infallibility of Scripture - The Bible, consisting of Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God, without error in its original manuscripts, and serves as our ultimate authority in matters of faith and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). So when it comes to ethics, this platform upholds biblical principles in its mannerisms, values, and perspectives.

5. Salvation by Grace Through Faith Alone - Eternal life is a free gift received by grace, through faith, in Jesus Christ, apart from works, so that no one should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). And to clarify, we believe that faithful obedience to Jesus Christ, He Himself being the whole of scripture, always accompanies faith, as works of righteousness are the fruit of faith.

6. Justification by Faith - Believers are declared righteous before God based solely on their faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross (Romans 3:21-26; Galatians 2:16).

7. The Resurrection and Second Coming of Jesus Christ – Jesus began walking this planet over 2,000 years ago, was crucified, died, and buried, then physically rose from the dead and He will return personally, visibly, and bodily to judge the living and the dead (Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:11-15).

Tier 2: These may encompass various interpretations regarding eschatological timelines, baptismal methods, spiritual gifts usage, church government styles, and worship practices. These secondary issues should never become sources of division but rather opportunities for mutual edification and growth in Christian fellowship.

Tier 3: We believe the following are heresies and teachings that undermine the foundation of Christianity and compromise the integrity of the Gospel message including denying the deity of Jesus Christ, rejecting the authority and infallibility of Scripture, teaching salvation by works instead of grace, questioning the necessity of Christ's resurrection, or doubting the second coming of Jesus Christ.
